CTR SPAR Tension and Rotation Monitor
Conveyor belts naturally stretch over time, reducing their tension, which is essential for proper system operation. Inadequate tension can quickly lead to malfunctions and costly downtime.
In the event of insufficient belt tension:
- Excessive power consumption
- Belt slippage on the drive pulley
- Premature pulley wear – Risk of material buildup and blockages at the loading point
In the event of excessive belt tension:
- Bearing or pulley failure
- Conveyor belt splice failure
- More complex belt tracking adjustments
The CTR SPAR puts you back in control of your equipment. It helps maintain precise belt tension, reduce wear, and minimize unplanned downtime.

Operating Principle
The CTR SPAR allows you to establish and maintain a reference measurement of your conveyor belt’s initial tension. Once the proper tension has been applied, it signals any variation using a simple green-and-red color-coded indicator system. This allows you to easily correct any loss of tension while avoiding excessive belt tension.
The 1% sag rule between return idlers is a general guideline and does not necessarily apply to all conveyors. For more complex systems, particularly long conveyors, high-tension applications, or heavy-duty belt constructions, the appropriate tension criteria should be determined on a case-by-case basis by conveyor belt specialists.
Complementary Products
Since the CTR SPAR operates optimally with 20-foot (6-meter) idler spacing, we recommend using high-quality, properly sized idlers to adequately support the load of your conveyor belt.
Rollers
We maintain a permanent inventory of premium-quality return idlers built to the following specifications, supplied with galvanized steel support brackets (4 1/2-inch drop):
- For 18″ to 42″ belts: CEMA D, 6″ diameter
- For 48″ and 54″ belts: CEMA E, 6″ diameter
- Other lengths and specifications are available upon request.
